Senior Product Technologist
Location: Leeds
Salary: Competitive Salary + excellent benefits package
Role Responsibilities
Technical Product Ownership
- Provide oversight of product quality, safety, functionality, workmanship and specification compliance prior to shipment.
- Work with the China quality team to review factory inspection results and Qarma data to identify high-risk products, suppliers, recurring defects and specification failures.
- Ensure inspections are completed against the correct product specifications, inspection requirements and acceptance standards.
- Identify recurring issues across suppliers, factories and product categories and ensure these are addressed through permanent corrective action rather than isolated fixes.
- Review critical and major defects and ensure appropriate escalation, investigation and resolution.
- Work with Product Technologists, MQEs, inspectors and factory auditors to ensure technical issues are understood and effectively managed.
- Challenge product specifications where requirements are unclear, incomplete, impractical or insufficient to control product quality and safety.
- Ensure critical quality, safety and compliance characteristics are clearly defined within product specifications and inspection requirements.
- Feed inspection, testing and customer-related findings back into product specifications, technical documentation and supplier requirements.
- Identify where additional testing, inspection, factory audit or technical investigation is required before shipment.
About You
- Significant experience in product technology, technical product management, quality, supplier quality, packaging technology or a closely related discipline.
- Experience working with manufactured products, preferably furniture, homewares, consumer products or a similar industry.
- Strong understanding of product specifications, quality standards, manufacturing processes and supplier quality management.
- Experience reviewing inspection and technical data and identifying trends, systemic issues and improvement opportunities.
- Experience working directly with overseas factories and suppliers.
- Strong technical understanding of packaging materials and packaging construction.
- Understanding of sustainable packaging principles, recyclability and material selection.
- Experience with UK and EU packaging legislation and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and project-management skills.
- Ability to interpret technical and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical supplier requirements.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to challenge suppliers and internal stakeholders constructively and drive change without direct line-management authority.
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of the balance between quality, safety, compliance, sustainability, cost, customer experience and supply-chain requirements.

- Experience with packaging testing and transit testing.
- Experience with carbon footprint data and GHG reporting.
