Principal Production Engineer
We are currently recruiting for a highly organised and detail-focused Principal Production Engineer to join a well-established engineering and manufacturing organisation operating within the defence and security sector.
This is a senior technical position providing leadership across production and manufacturing activities. The successful candidate will support new product introduction, improve manufacturing processes, and ensure products are delivered in line with customer, quality, and safety requirements.
Working closely with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams, you will develop and implement effective Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT) strategies, ensuring products can be manufactured and tested efficiently, reliably, and cost-effectively.
The organisation designs and manufactures a diverse range of high-quality electronic and electromechanical products for demanding, safety-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a primary technical point of contact for customers.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance across manufacturing and production activities.
- Support new product introduction and the transition of products from design into manufacture.
- Work closely with manufacturing leaders to develop robust DFM and DFT strategies.
- Produce and maintain production build documentation, work instructions, and test procedures.
- Ensure manufacturing and test processes meet customer, quality, and safety requirements.
- Investigate and resolve technical production and manufacturing issues.
- Identify and implement improvements to quality, efficiency, productivity, and manufacturing capability.
- Support continuous improvement and process optimisation activities.
- Provide technical support throughout the full product lifecycle.

Qualifications and Experience
- Degree in Electronics Engineering, HNC, or an equivalent engineering qualification and level of experience.
- Time-served engineer with extensive experience in a relevant electronics or manufacturing engineering discipline.
- Previous experience within a bespoke electronics or electromechanical manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience supporting new product introduction and design transfer into production.
- Good understanding of Design for Manufacture and Design for Test principles.
- Experience producing manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and test procedures.
- Experience working with RF systems, subsystems, or associated test equipment would be advantageous.
- Strong problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and other PC-based software applications.
