Senior Production Engineer | Defence Manufacturing & Industrialisation
Join a team delivering cutting-edge defence technology and play a key role in shaping the future of advanced manufacturing.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Production Engineer to lead the development and optimisation of production capabilities for complex defence-grade hardware systems. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically driven engineering professional who thrives in a highly regulated environment and enjoys influencing products from concept through to full-rate manufacture.
As a senior technical leader, you will work across engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain functions to ensure products are designed and manufactured for reliability, scalability, compliance, and performance.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the industrialisation of complex electro-mechanical products, ensuring robust and scalable manufacturing processes.
- Translate engineering designs into efficient production solutions, embedding Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles from the outset.
- Develop and optimise production workflows, tooling, fixtures, assembly methods, and test procedures.
- Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) activities from prototype through to full-rate production.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement effective corrective and preventive actions using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Create and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process specifications, PFMEAs, and control plans.
- Ensure production readiness through equipment qualification, process validation, and capability assessments.
- Collaborate closely with design engineers to improve manufacturability, quality, and production efficiency.
- Manage CAPEX proposals and support investment appraisal through ROI analysis.
- Support supplier development, quality improvement initiatives, and technical issue resolution.
- Mentor and support engineering and production teams, helping develop best practices and workmanship standards.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, reliability, and cost reduction.
- Maintain compliance with defence, safety, quality, and configuration management requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
