General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea

General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provides avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems, and stores management systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.

Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join General Dynamics, a leading-edge defence company, as a Senior Production Test & Repair Engineer. This position would allow you to play an important role in our innovative Test Development team, working on avionics and possibly on land-based armoured vehicle communication systems.

Join a team responsible for testing, fault diagnosis, and repair of advanced avionics and mission-critical electronic systems. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on investigating product failures, diagnosing faults to component level, carrying out repair activities, and supporting the resolution of complex electronic assembly failures.

We are particularly interested in engineers with strong electronics troubleshooting experience, including PCB fault-finding, schematic interpretation, root cause analysis, and component-level repair.

Defence experience is not essential. Applications are welcomed from candidates within aerospace, rail, telecoms, industrial electronics, manufacturing, medical devices, and other technically complex environments.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide test solutions for highly technical electronic circuits and units
  • Undertake test strategies and develop test solutions to ensure our products meet all our quality requirements and safe functionality within the aircraft
  • Play a major part in technical investigations, requiring a comprehensive knowledge of electronic hardware and software
  • Working alongside highly skilled engineers, you will find your hardware/software knowledge continually expanding, leading to opportunities for future development and progression

Qualifications

Essential Experience

  • Component-level fault diagnosis and repair
  • Electronic circuit troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics
  • Root cause analysis of electronic failures
  • Production test of electronic assemblies
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analysers, and laboratory test equipment
  • Experience fault-finding on analogue, digital, and mixed-signal electronics
  • Minimum of HNC level education or equivalent

Highly Desirable

  • Avionics or aerospace electronics
  • Defence electronics
  • Automated test equipment (ATE)
  • Environmental and qualification testing
  • Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred.

This role has a salary of between £45,600 and £57,000 plus our flexible benefits package.
