Join us as a Senior Programme Manager at our Farrborough site, where you’ll collaborate with some of the brightest minds in the defence and technology sectors. Within our Science and Technology Division, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing QinetiQ’s most advanced products, from start to finish.
Lead and drive complex multi-disciplinary programmes, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. Drive delivering value and outcomes for stakeholders and customers (internal and external).
Responsibilities
As Senior Programme Manager, you will:
- Deliver Programme Vision: Fully responsible and accountable for defining, shaping, and executing a ** programme’s vision, objectives, and benefits** in a complex environment
- Lead & Monitor Programmes: Oversee programme delivery from start to finish, ensuring alignment with strategy and stakeholder commitments
- Integrate Planning & Project Management: Ensure effective programme planning by structuring related projects, securing resources, and aligning Project Management Plans (PMPs) to meet scope, quality, time, and budget targets
- Budget & Cost Control: Work closely with the Portfolio Office to enforce robust financial controls and provide accurate, real-time performance reporting
- Risk & Issue Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks at the programme level. Implement responses and address issues that impact delivery
- Stakeholder Engagement: Foster collaboration across internal teams (Finance, Commercial, People, Enterprise Services, Portfolio Office, Technical, Supply Chain) and external partners, ensuring ongoing alignment and commitment
- Requirements Management: Capture, evaluate, and justify stakeholder needs to deliver the intended programme outcomes and benefits

Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Extensive Track Record: Proven experience managing complex multi-project programmes (typically worth £10–£100M+)
- Expertise in Lifecycle Management: Demonstrated deep knowledge of programme lifecycles from initiation to closure
- Team Leadership: Managed Project Managers and cross-functional teams with significant accountability for delivery outcomes
- Accredited Project Certification: Hold (or be working toward) one of the following:
- APM PMQ, ChPP
- PMI PgMP
- AIPM CPPD
- Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) Foundation & Practitioner
- Innovative Mindset: Willingness to learn in a dynamic, R&D-driven environment and embrace new challenges without preconceptions
Role Details
- Location: Farnborough-based (min. 3 days/week on-site), with expected travel to secondary QinetiQ facilities and client sites
- State-of-the-Art Facilities: Operate within a UK-leading research environment, including advanced laser technologies, wind tunnels, and large-scale defence R&D projects
