Status: Accepting applications — awaiting seed funding close before formal offers

Company: Vector Studios Limited

Location: United Kingdom, Basingstoke

Work arrangement: On-site, full-time

Salary: Competitive (based on experience)

Start date: Month 1–2 of seed funding

About the Role

We are building a large-scale persistent universe strategy game on proprietary engine technology. As Senior Programmer you will own the most technically demanding parts of the project — core simulation systems, high-performance architecture, and the foundational decisions that everything else is built on top of.

This is a custom engine project — not Unity or Unreal. You will be working at a level of scale and complexity that is genuinely uncommon in the industry.

Responsibilities

  • Own and architect core simulation and gameplay systems end-to-end
  • Lead technical decisions on performance, scalability, and system design
  • Implement fleet AI, combat mechanics, orbital physics, and resource economies
  • Build and maintain development tools: editors, debugging visualisers, profiling systems
  • Optimise aggressively for massive unit counts at real-time frame rates
  • Maintain and extend the build pipeline: CI/CD, automated testing, deployment
  • Write clean, documented, maintainable code
  • Mentor and guide junior and general programmers on the team

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
