About The Role
The primary duty of the Senior Project Accountant is to be accountable for all financial aspects related to the projects that are assigned to them. This includes taking ownership of project setups, billing, project costs, purchase orders and requisitions, and ensuring timesheet completion. This role is expected to work autonomously on project accounting duties, handling complex issues and coaching colleagues where required. The Senior Project Accountant will be required to provide oversight and guidance of the finance activities for a Managed Cost Centre (MCC), paying close attention to the metrics that drive financial performance and seeking to influence them positively. There is an expectation that they will lead projects and initiatives that will help to raise standards and drive the function forward.
About You
We are looking for someone who is commercially minded and a detail-oriented finance professional with extensive experience in project accounting, ideally gained within the engineering, construction or infrastructure sectors. You thrive in complex, project-driven environments and have a strong understanding of project financial management, cost control, forecasting, and contract accounting. You are confident partnering with project managers and operational stakeholders, providing clear financial insight that supports decision-making and drives project performance. With excellent analytical skills, you can interpret financial data, identify risks and opportunities, and communicate findings effectively to both finance and non-finance audiences.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
