About the role
We are seeking an immediately available Project Accountant to join a flourishing business. This role will support the financial management and control of multiple projects, ensuring accurate accounting, robust financial reporting, and compliance with internal controls.
The successful candidate will play a key role in month-end processes, balance sheet integrity, contract administration, vendor management, fixed asset accounting, and inventory control. The position offers excellent exposure to operational and commercial stakeholders, requiring strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and post journals including accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and project-related adjustments.
- Ensure the integrity of project costs and financial records.
- Assist with monthly management reporting and provide commentary on project performance.
Reconciliations & Financial Control
- Perform detailed balance sheet and project account reconciliations.
- Reconcile supplier accounts, inventory records, fixed assets, and contract balances.
- Identify control weaknesses and recommend process improvements.
- Support internal and external audit requirements by providing accurate supporting documentation.

Vendor Agreements & Contract Management
- Review and maintain supplier and vendor agreements.
- Monitor contract terms, pricing schedules, and payment milestones.
- Ensure supplier invoices align with approved contracts and purchase orders.
- Work closely with procurement and operational teams to manage contract compliance and financial risk.
Fixed Asset Management
- Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure accurate capitalisation of project expenditure.
- Calculate and post depreciation charges.
- Track asset additions, disposals, transfers, and impairments.
- Support physical asset verification exercises where required.
Inventory Accounting
- Monitor inventory valuation and movement.
- Reconcile stock balances between operational and financial systems.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies and support stock count processes.
Project & Contract Accounting
- Track project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Monitor project profitability and provide financial insights to project managers.
- Support forecasting and budgeting activities for ongoing projects.
- Review contract performance and assist with revenue and cost recognition where applicable.

Skills & Experience
- Qualified or Part-Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Previous experience within a Project Accountant, Management Accountant, Financial Accountant, or similar role.
- Strong reconciliation and balance sheet control experience.
- Knowledge of contract accounting, fixed assets, and inventory accounting.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
