Job Description: Senior Project Development Manager

Metlen Energy & Metals is looking for an experienced Senior Project Development Manager to join our growing team in London.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Head of Project Development, you will take senior ownership of Metlen’s energy infrastructure pipeline across the UK and Ireland, leading projects from the identification and assessment of early-stage opportunities through development, commissioning, and eventual sale or investment exit.
Your role will encompass:
- Leading the development of a portfolio of utility-scale Solar PV and BESS projects across the UK and Ireland, taking ownership of key development milestones, risks, and deliverables.
- Driving the implementation of the UK and Ireland project development strategy, working closely with the Head of Project Development and senior stakeholders to identify and prioritise opportunities.
- Taking ownership of projects from early-stage opportunity assessment through development, RTB, construction, commissioning, and eventual sale or investment exit.
- Leading cross-functional project teams, providing direction and oversight across Grid, EPC, Legal, Finance, Technical, Commercial, and other internal functions.
- Providing senior oversight and direction to project development activities, ensuring projects remain aligned with investment objectives, development timelines, and commercial requirements.
- Identifying and proactively managing project, development, regulatory, grid, land, and commercial risks, implementing mitigation strategies where required.
- Taking a leading role in buy-side due diligence and M&A activities, assessing potential project and portfolio acquisitions, and providing development and commercial input to investment decisions.
- Leading development input into sell-side transactions, working closely with senior leadership, investors, advisers, and internal stakeholders to maximise project value and transaction readiness.
- Managing relationships with external development partners, consultants, authorities, landowners, grid stakeholders, and other key industry participants.
- Providing strategic direction to local development partners and ensuring projects progress effectively against agreed development plans and investment criteria.
- Mentoring and providing leadership to members of the project development team, supporting the continued growth and capability of the function.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of the UK and Ireland renewable energy market, regulatory framework, grid environment, and emerging development opportunities, identifying implications and opportunities for Metlen.
- Preparing and presenting senior-level project and portfolio updates, including development status, investment considerations, key risks, commercial opportunities, and recommended actions.

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Legal Studies, Business Management, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in infrastructure or renewable energy project development, with significant exposure to utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS.
- Proven experience leading the development of multiple energy infrastructure projects from early-stage development through to RTB, construction, commissioning, or exit.
- Strong understanding of the full renewable energy development lifecycle, including land, planning, grid, permitting, commercial, technical, and investment considerations.
- Demonstrable experience leading cross-functional teams and managing senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in M&A, buy-side due diligence, project acquisitions, and/or sell-side transactions, with the ability to assess both development and commercial considerations.
- Strong commercial and strategic mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities, challenge assumptions, and make informed recommendations to senior leadership.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, competing priorities, and significant stakeholder groups while maintaining accountability for delivery.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage with senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, commercial, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Willingness to travel across the UK and Ireland as required.
