Project Engineer – Digital Software Engineering
Reading HQ – 3-4 days a week onsite
Active SC Clearance is mandatory
Up to £80.55 p/h Inside IR35
I’m currently looking for an experienced security cleared Project Engineer to support the technical delivery of software engineering and digital engineering projects within a highly regulated UK Defence & Aerospace environment.
This is a great opportunity for someone who can bridge the gap between engineering teams and project/delivery management, providing technical leadership, coordinating engineering activity and driving projects through to successful delivery.
What we’re looking for
- Multiple years experience across software, systems or platform engineering projects
- Strong software engineering / systems development background
- Experience working within software delivery environments
- Understanding of DevOps and CI/CD practices
- Proven technical leadership and stakeholder management experience
- Strong project risk, issue and dependency management skills
- Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT or a related discipline

You’ll act as a key technical interface across engineering and delivery teams, taking responsibility for coordinating technical activities, managing risks and dependencies, and ensuring projects remain aligned to agreed scope, schedule and quality objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating technical activities across multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Managing technical risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies
- Supporting project plans, technical roadmaps and delivery milestones
- Providing technical leadership and first-level technical decision making
- Acting as an escalation point for engineering issues
- Managing technical interfaces with customers, suppliers and internal teams
- Supporting project reporting, forecasting and performance monitoring
- Facilitating technical reviews and milestone assessments
- Supporting resource planning, workload prioritisation and capacity management
- Ensuring adherence to engineering governance, processes and standards
- Supporting configuration and change management

You’ll need demonstrable experience delivering engineering solutions within UK Defence, MOD, Defence Digital, Aerospace or another highly regulated environment. Experience with Model-Based Development and multidisciplinary engineering teams would also be advantageous.
