Senior Project Engineer – Rail
Location: Manchester / York
Contract: 6 months
IR35: Inside IR35
Rate: £594 Umbrella
PTS/Sentinel: Required
We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support a major rail infrastructure programme.
The role will involve undertaking Designated Project Engineer (DPE) responsibilities, supporting the safe design and development of railway infrastructure projects from inception through to option selection.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary design projects.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with relevant railway standards and procedures.
- Monitor design progression, quality, and safety.
- Provide guidance to Project Engineers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Review consultant designs and support technical/safety audits.
- Liaise with project sponsors, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
Essential Experience
- Significant engineering experience within multidisciplinary design projects.
- Strong understanding of rail safety, engineering assurance, and quality management.
- Experience working within railway standards and procedures.
- Previous experience in DPE, feasibility, option selection, or early project development is desirable.
- Availability to work 3 days per week in Manchester, or 2 days in York + 1 day in Manchester.
