Role Definition

The Freight ETCS project supports the rollout of ETCS Onboard solution to the UK Freight Fleet on a number of UK locomotives. The project covers locomotives in different stages of the project lifecycle including design, first in class installation, fleet production and type testing.

Key Accountabilities

  • Will play a lead role within the ETCS On Board Engineering team to ensure all project related deliverables are understood and implemented in line with project schedules.
  • Ensure the engineering community create and monitor engineering plans to report progress against budget and timeline, taking proactive and decisive remedial action when required.
  • Work with the Head of Engineering and Work Package Managers to achieve efficiencies in project and engineering delivery while fostering engineering excellence, promoting consistent practices and the identification/adoption of new processes, tools and methods of working.

Essential:

  • In depth practical knowledge and experience of design and installation of on-board train systems, typically ETCS, TPWS/AWS, GSM-R, Wi-Fi, CCTV and/or DAS.
  • Track record of delivering installation and/or testing and commissioning projects associated with modifications to rail vehicles.
  • Tenacious approach to delivery of technical work packages for a complex project.
  • Experience of working with others to deliver a range of work packages.
  • Knowledge of depot procedures and site safety.
  • Ability to read and review requirements, creating written comments and attending reviews as required.
  • Review engineering deliverables for completeness and consistency.
  • Previous experience in liaising with subcontractors throughout the whole project lifecycle.
  • Demonstrates customer focus in all work carried out.
  • Experience of working to industry quality and safety standards.
  • Strong and effective communicator at all levels within the business and in front of new and existing customers.
  • Highly motivated, dependable, and self-reliant.
  • Willingness and ability to work from Derby 3 days per week and flexibility to travel to fitment partner locations in the Midlands.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of Freight Locomotives.
  • Knowledge of implementing Onboard ETCS solutions.
  • Experience working in an operational and/or maintenance environment.
  • Proven track record in working in major Sub-contract environments.
  • Review product installation designs to ensure adherence to guidelines and installation constraints.
