Lead Delivery of HV and EHV Grid Infrastructure

You'll lead the delivery of HV and EHV grid infrastructure up to 400kV — BESS, HVDC, substation upgrades and grid connections for DNOs, National Grid and hyperscale data centre clients. You'll own each contract from tender to energisation and final account.

About JSM

JSM Group designs and builds the power networks and digital infrastructure that clients across the UK, Europe and beyond depend on, from high-voltage grid connections and critical utilities to data centres and renewable energy. Our civil, power and digital engineers work under one roof, giving clients one team from design to energisation, with the technical, commercial and consenting risk managed from day one.

Belonging here isn’t accidental; it’s engineered. Our values of personal responsibility, sound judgment and drive shape how we work, and you’ll get the work to stretch you and the support to develop fast. See life at JSM at careers.jsmgroup.com.

About the Team

You'll join the Power division's substation and grid project management team, delivering BESS, HVDC, EHV substation upgrades and major grid connections for DNOs, TSOs and Tier 1 clients including hyperscale data centre operators and National Grid, much of it on live networks. You'll work closely with the Contracts Manager, commercial team and specialist engineers.

The Role

You'll take full ownership of one or more high-value contracts, accountable for safety, programme, cost and client satisfaction from pre-construction to close-out. You'll run complex HV/EHV programmes independently and feed technical input into tenders and feasibility studies.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What You'll Do

  • Lead full lifecycle delivery, from FEED and tender through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, energisation and handover on HV/EHV programmes up to 400kV
  • Act as the primary client interface with DNOs (UKPN, SSE, Scottish Power, NGED), National Grid / NESO, ICPs, IDNOs and hyperscale end-clients
  • Manage NEC3/4 contracts in full: early warnings, compensation events, change control and final account working with the commercial team on variations, payment applications and monthly financial reporting.
  • Direct subcontractors, SAPs, protection engineers and design consultants, and plan FAT/SAT, switching and energisation with G99, PGMD, protection and control, and cybersecurity documentation approved
  • Run project governance and SHEQ programme reviews, RAID logs, cost forecasts, RAMS and ITPs, toolbox talks and site audits in line with CDM 2015, ESQCR, ENA standards and the Grid Code

Good to know: hybrid working pattern [confirm base location and expected site travel].

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • Technical authority in HV/EHV power engineering substation systems, BESS, HVDC, protection and control, and grid connection processes
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams across concurrent projects in live network environments
  • Hands-on NEC contract management, including change events and P&L accountability on high-value programmes

Nice to Have

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or actively working towards it
  • Experience with a Tier 1 electrical contractor (e.g. H&MV Engineering, Kier, Hitachi Energy, GE Grid Solutions or equivalent)
  • Delivery for hyperscale data centre operators, National Grid or offshore wind end-clients
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6, SharePoint or CDE platforms

You'll Thrive Here If You

  • Take ownership of your work and your development
  • Would rather solve a hard technical problem than avoid it
  • Know that good delivery depends on civil, power and digital teams pulling in the same direction
  • Are straight with people about risk and programme — especially under pressure

Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. We look at what you've delivered and what you're capable of — not just the list.

What We Offer

  • Pay & reward — competitive salary, performance-linked bonus and car allowance (where applicable), 4% matched pension
  • Time off — 28 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, and 2 paid volunteering days a year
  • Health & wellbeing — BUPA health cash plan, Benenden Health, employee assistance programme
  • Career growth — mentoring and coaching, funded training through our Training Centre and Competency Cloud, and a clear route to chartership
  • Extras — electric car salary-sacrifice scheme

Equal Opportunities

JSM Group is an equal opportunities employer, and we welcome applications from everyone. Better engineering comes from bringing different experience into the same room, and every application is assessed on skills, experience and potential. If you need an adjustment at any stage the application, interview format or assessment, tell us and we'll sort it.
