Job Title: Senior Project Manager
Reports To: Project Delivery Director
Location: Stockton-on-Tees
Department: Engineering — pxEngineering

The Role
The Senior Project Manager directs, manages, and coordinates the execution and deliverables of high-profile projects for pxEngineering, in line with company policies, processes, and objectives, ensuring efficient control of clients, scope, and costs, and that deadlines are met consistently in a very high-velocity environment.
The role works closely with Project Teams, outlining and managing goals and objectives to deliver project requirements, as well as reporting key project KPIs and metrics. The role is full time, days based, with frequent travel, and carries line management responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery & Control
- Determine client requirements and translate them into an actionable plan
- Ensure projects are running on time and to budget, delivering expected business outcomes
- Identify and manage risk, and deal with changes to contractual scope
- Ensure work is carried out to px standards and contract requirements
- Compile and control detailed schedules in MS Project/P6 or equivalent
- Daily management of Project & Engineering teams to enable project delivery
Commercial & Contract Management
- Work with the financial controller to log, monitor, and control budget and forecast as a live document for weekly reporting
- Control and maintain client relationships while exploiting opportunities for growth (VOs, TQs, EWRs and schedule)
- Drive the Supply Chain team to ensure long lead items are specified and bought to achieve schedule and cost
- Review bid documentation and contract to prepare and own the handover process from proposal to projects, ensuring contractual requirements are fully understood
- Write the Project Execution Plan in line with client requirements
- Control contractual requirements and any variations to scope, ensuring these are captured and communicated to the client following the internal variation process
- Raise and submit payment applications and follow up on invoicing with the client
- Ensure contractual documentation is supplied on time and in full, working with the commercial team to maximise opportunity

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Co-ordinate work and motivate team members
- Act as the main point of contact for the client
- Coaching and mentoring of project team members
- Internal and external presentations to senior management and client
- Site safety, control, and management, ensuring punch list/snag items are closed with velocity
Reporting, Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Drive and internally expedite engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, site installation, commissioning, and handover to achieve schedule
- Control project quality, managing team and investigations to help close QI's/non-conformance reports
- Weekly and monthly project reporting on KPIs, metrics, and PVA tracking and analysis
- Follow the project management process, ensuring teams understand and are bought in, and contribute to continuous improvement
- Control departmental deliverables to ensure the project remains on target, reporting up the chain if issues are realised
- Project sign-off and completion to plan (cost, schedule, scope, quality), with lessons learned reported
- Develop and maintain project management processes with the Project Engineering Manager
- Review and close out projects, ensuring lessons learned are captured, briefed, and understood by all departments and managers
- Assist with developing and maintaining project management processes

People Management
- Responsible for all day-to-day management activities for the team, ensuring the team is engaged and meeting performance targets, tackling issues at the earliest opportunity
- Lead the completion of all annual performance management activities relating to the team, ensuring deadlines are met
- Responsible for ensuring team members are technically competent to safely undertake their job roles and display required behavioural competencies
- Responsible for the overall health and wellbeing of the team
Zero Harm, Competence & Behaviours
- Lead your team in ensuring an awareness of, and compliance with, px Group Zero Harm health, safety, and risk management standards, policies, and practices
- Review and agree to the Zero Harm Charter
- Consistently demonstrate compliance with all MP1 behaviours in line with the px Behavioural Competency Framework
- Manage direct line reports to ensure competence to perform their assigned role is maintained
- Complete the px Management Development Programme and subsequent refreshers, briefings, and updates
The Person
- Degree qualified, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering
- Strong experience in project roles, holding a formal Project Management qualification (PMP or equivalent)
- Project management experience in an engineering environment is essential, preferably in heavy engineering (large lifts and heavy steelwork)
- Effective at planning, monitoring, and reviewing
- Understanding of engineering drawings and specifications, ideally holding a formal engineering qualification
- Strong computer skills including scheduling experience, preferably in MS Project/P6, and MRP experience, preferably SAP
