Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Senior Project Manager in our IT team.

Role Overview

The Senior IT Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and successful delivery of IT projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and organizational goals. This role involves managing projects through the Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC), with a focus on defining scope, creating schedules, managing budgets, mitigating risks, and engaging stakeholders effectively. The Senior IT Project Manager will lead cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring seamless communication to drive project milestones and deliverables.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and oversee end-to-end management of IT projects, ensuring adherence to Project Management Life Cycle (PMLC) and Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes. Responsibilities include managing all phases of projects to ensure deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate and oversee project activities, collaborating with IT project teams, business owners, and key stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals. Continuously monitor performance against objectives and implement corrective actions to address deviations.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project charters, schedules, risk management plans, communication plans, budgets, gate reviews, and other project artifacts to ensure effective governance and transparency.
  • Secure resources and funding by working closely with project team members and leadership to ensure proper allocation of personnel and financial assets.
  • Define project scope and schedules in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring alignment with business needs and objectives. Partner with business analysts and architects to translate business requirements into detailed, actionable specifications.
  • Provide regular status updates and track performance metrics to ensure transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement within project teams.
  • Manage vendor relationships, ensuring accountability for delivery activities, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Communicate project progress, risks, and dependencies to executive leadership, offering actionable insights and risk mitigation strategies to support strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements, maintaining robust project governance and documentation to meet industry standards.
  • Drive additional projects and initiatives as required, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic business environment.

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum of 8+ years of project management experience, with a focus on application development and data integration projects across mid-sized to large-scale organizations. Detailed knowledge of project management and software development life cycle methodologies.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading large, complex IT integration projects, demonstrating the ability to independently manage scope, timelines, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Background in Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance preferred.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills with an ability to effectively manage cross-functional team discussions.
  • Strong management skills with an ability to achieve results in a matrix management environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in implementing waterfall, agile, and hybrid project delivery methodologies, with a focus on adaptability and project success.
  • Multi-disciplinary IT knowledge, including systems deployment, application development, and infrastructure implementation.
  • Proficiency in Project and Portfolio Management tools such as Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Azure DevOps, and other collaboration platforms, ensuring efficient tracking, reporting, and documentation.
