Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Transmission & Renewables team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
We’re looking for a Senior Project Manager to join M Group, leading the successful delivery of major renewable energy projects across the UK.
As a Senior Project Manager, you'll take responsibility for delivering complex projects from concept through to commissioning and handover, ensuring excellence in safety, quality, programme performance, and commercial outcomes. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering, construction, and stakeholder teams, you'll provide strategic leadership throughout the project lifecycle while supporting business growth within the renewable energy sector.
This is a hybrid role where you will be required to attend both site and our Birmingham office occasionally.
- Lead the safe and successful delivery of renewable energy and electrical infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to programme, budget, and quality requirements.
- Manage project teams across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and commercial functions.
- Oversee substation, grid connection, battery energy storage (BESS), solar, wind, and transmission infrastructure projects from development through to energisation.
- Ensure compliance with National Grid standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements (where required)
- Drive project planning activities, resource allocation, risk management, and performance reporting.
- Lead project governance processes, including project reviews, financial forecasting, and progress reporting.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, contractors, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders.
- Identify and mitigate project risks while maximising opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support procurement strategies and oversee contractor and supplier performance.
- Provide leadership on health, safety, environmental, and sustainability performance across all projects.
- Champion best practice project delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support bid submissions, tender reviews, and business development opportunities within the renewable energy sector.
- Ensure projects meet environmental, social value, and sustainability objectives.
- Support project commissioning, handover, and operational readiness activities.
- Mentor and develop Project Managers, Engineers, and wider delivery teams.

What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience delivering major renewable energy, transmission, distribution, or utility infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of grid connection projects, substations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar, wind, or other renewable energy technologies.
- National Grid Substation build experience - including workable knowledge of NG SRs, Rules, EPC / M&E Framework
- Proven leadership on Design and Build projects, managing cross functional teams
- Ability to drive projects through all lifecycle stages from feasibility and design through construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills engaging with clients and suppliers
- Qualification in Project Management (APM, PMP etc.)
- Strong commercial experience with NEC contracts
- Demonstrated ability to manage risk and opportunity
- Strong regulatory knowledge including HSWA, CDM, EAWR etc.
- Ability to drive a project through all life cycles
- Experience managing budgets with history of delivery to time and cost
- History of using Project Management software
