The Opportunity
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of complex, high-value engineering projects with overall accountability for managing projects typically valued between £150K and £10 million, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual, technical, and quality requirements.
The role provides leadership throughout the full project lifecycle, from supporting business development and tendering activities through project execution, commissioning, and final close-out. Working closely with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for ensuring effective project governance, commercial performance, risk management, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities…
Commercial & Business Development
- Identify and develop new business opportunities with existing and prospective customers.
- Prepare technical and commercial quotations, proposals, and project cost estimates.
- Manage the commercial performance of projects, including budgets, forecasting, cost control, and profitability.

Project Planning & Delivery
- Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of high-value engineering projects.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with customers and stakeholders.
Risk, Governance & Compliance
- Establish appropriate project governance, standards, procedures, and reporting frameworks.
- Identify project risks and opportunities, implementing effective mitigation and contingency plans.
Project Controls & Reporting
- Monitor project performance against programme, budget, quality, and contractual requirements.
- Produce regular project reports covering progress, financial performance, risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
Your skills and experiences:
- Proven experience managing complex engineering projects valued between £150k and £10 million.
- Minimum 10 years of work experience at this level.
- Strong background within rotating machinery, electrical engineering, power generation, or heavy engineering environments.
- Experience delivering projects within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, hydropower, or conventional power generation.
- Excellent commercial awareness with experience managing contracts, budgets, cost control, and change management.
- Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Project Management, or a related discipline is preferred. Project Management certification (PMI, APM, PMQ, or PPQ) is advantageous.
