Senior Project Manager – Grid/Substation

Black & Veatch is seeking an experienced UK Grid Specialist / Senior Project Manager – Grid/Substation to lead the successful delivery of complex grid and substation projects across the UK.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of strategically important projects, work directly with major clients, and lead multidisciplinary teams delivering critical infrastructure that enables the next generation of technology, industry and sustainable energy solutions.

Hybrid Working: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home

Travel: Occasional travel across the UK to Sites/clients/other BV Offices

The Opportunity

As a Senior Project Manager, you'll take overall responsibility for the delivery of medium to large-scale grid and substation projects, ensuring projects are executed safely, efficiently and successfully from inception through to completion.

You'll work closely with clients, contractors, technical specialists and project teams to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.

This role offers the opportunity to become a key leader within Black & Veatch's growing Grid business while helping clients overcome increasingly complex power and infrastructure challenges.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the successful delivery of grid infrastructure and substation projects across multiple clients and programmes
  • Managing project performance, including cost, schedule, resource planning and quality
  • Identifying and mitigating project risks throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering, design and project delivery teams
  • Managing third-party consultants, contractors and delivery partners
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, health and safety requirements, and client expectations
  • Supporting commercial activities, contract negotiations and business development opportunities
  • Driving project governance, reporting and performance across your project portfolio
  • Providing leadership, coaching and direction to project teams

We're interested in speaking with candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Significant project management experience within UK grid, electricity transmission, distribution or substation infrastructure projects
  • A proven track record leading complex engineering and infrastructure projects
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and coordinating external supply chain partners
  • Strong commercial awareness and project controls experience
  • The ability to build trusted relationships with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing project risks, schedules, budgets and contractual commitments

Desirable Experience

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas will be particularly attractive:

  • National Grid projects
  • Transmission & Distribution infrastructure
  • High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) systems
  • Data Centre developments
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • EV Charging Infrastructure
  • Renewable Energy projects
  • Engineering consultancy environments

Additionally, the following would be advantageous:

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering (Electrical preferred)
  • PMP or equivalent Project Management certification
