Senior Project Manager

Major New School Development | Shetland Islands

Hays Construction is proud to be partnering with one of the UK's leading Tier 1 contractors to recruit a Senior Project Manager for a major new school development in the Shetland Islands.

This is a unique opportunity to take a senior leadership role on a flagship education project that will create a lasting impact for the local community whilst providing unrivalled career development within a nationally recognised contractor.

Reporting directly to an experienced Project Director, you will play a key role in leading the successful delivery of this high-profile scheme, managing large project teams, engaging with key stakeholders and helping drive one of the most significant construction projects in the region.

Alongside a highly competitive salary and bonus structure, a generous living-away-from-home allowance and accommodation support will be provided.

About the Company

Our client is a nationally recognised Tier 1 contractor with an exceptional reputation for delivering complex, high-value projects across the education, healthcare, commercial and public sector markets. With a substantial forward order book and a strong culture of internal progression, this business offers genuine opportunities to advance into Project Director and Operational Leadership positions.

The Opportunity

Working alongside the Project Director, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of a major new-build school development from construction through to completion.

This role offers a rare combination of project scale, autonomy and visibility, making it an ideal opportunity for an ambitious Senior Project Manager looking to accelerate their career within a market-leading contractor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take operational responsibility for the successful delivery of a major education project.
  • Lead and manage site-based delivery teams and key subcontractor partners.
  • Drive programme performance, quality standards and project profitability.
  • Maintain exceptional health, safety and environmental standards.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and wider stakeholders.
  • Support strategic project planning alongside the Project Director.
  • Produce accurate project reporting and manage delivery against key milestones.
  • Mentor and develop emerging members of the project team.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven track record delivering major construction projects for a recognised main contractor.
  • Previous experience operating at Senior Project Manager level on projects of significant value and complexity.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent programme and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications.
  • Education, healthcare or public-sector project experience would be advantageous.
