Senior Project Manager / Project Director – Geotechnical & Ground Engineering
About the Opportunity
An exceptional opportunity has arisen to join a leading specialist ground engineering contractor delivering one of the UK's largest and most technically challenging infrastructure programmes. Working on a nationally significant project, you will play a key leadership role in the successful delivery of complex geotechnical packages, including specialist foundation and ground improvement works. The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager / Project Director to provide strategic leadership across major geotechnical construction works. You will have overall responsibility for the safe, high-quality and commercially successful delivery of multiple workstreams, leading multidisciplinary teams while ensuring programme, commercial, contractual and operational excellence. This position requires an experienced construction leader capable of integrating engineering, operations, commercial and planning functions to deliver large-scale infrastructure works within a collaborative contract environment.

Operational Delivery
- Lead the delivery of specialist ground engineering activities including:
- Diaphragm Walls
- Soil Mixing
- Retaining Structures
- Ground Improvement
- Deep Foundation Works
- Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to programme.
- Resolve technical and operational challenges throughout project delivery.
Safety & Quality
- Champion a Zero Harm culture across all operations.
- Lead major incident investigations where required.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain industry-leading quality standards.
- Monitor project KPIs and performance metrics.
Programme & Commercial
- Own overall programme delivery and productivity performance.
- Lead project forecasting and commercial reporting.
- Manage CVRs, forecasting and financial performance.
- Oversee compensation events, change management and commercial negotiations.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and maximise value.
Contract & Stakeholder Management
- Provide leadership within collaborative NEC contract environments.
- Lead contractual risk management.
- Chair commercial and risk reduction meetings.
- Manage client relationships and senior stakeholder engagement.
- Ensure contractual obligations are effectively administered throughout delivery.

Leadership
- Mentor and develop senior project teams.
- Build high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
- Promote collaborative working practices.
- Drive professional development and succession planning.
Experience Required
Essential
- Significant senior leadership experience within major infrastructure, civil engineering or heavy construction projects (typically 8+ years).
- Strong background in specialist geotechnical or ground engineering projects.
- Experience delivering complex foundation, retaining structure or ground improvement works.
- Proven ability to lead large multidisciplinary construction teams.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing project financial performance.
- Extensive NEC contract experience (NEC4 preferred).
- Excellent client and stakeholder management skills.
- CSCS Card.
- SMSTS or equivalent.
Desirable
- Leadership or Management qualification.
- NEC4 Accreditation.
- Experience within collaborative delivery models.
- Strong understanding of CVRs and Earned Value Management.
- Experience using project controls software including:
- Primavera P6
- Microsoft Project
- CEMAR
- Power BI
