About the Role
National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is developing and constructing a series of HV substation projects across the North-West of England.
We are looking for a Senior Project Manager for our Infrastructure Delivery team, delivering projects in the Cheshire area.
Our transmission network is undergoing a once-in-a-generation transformation to support the journey to net zero. Senior Project Managers are at the heart of delivering the Grid upgrades that directly enable the UK’s Net Zero goals, leading a team of Project Managers in construction projects delivering new 400kV substations & Grid connections to wind farms, solar farms, and battery storage – all of which will provide clean and affordable energy.
As a Senior Project Manager within our North-West team, you'll play a leading role in delivering critical substation new-build and extension work that is essential to the UK's clean energy future. As projects enter the procurement and delivery phases, successful candidates will become key members of the project leadership team, responsible for delivering all aspects of the works.
This is an opportunity to lead complex, high-profile programmes, influence strategic decisions, and make a lasting impact on one of the country's most ambitious infrastructure investment plans.
Our projects are based across Cheshire, so you’ll need to be within commuting distance of this area. You’ll primarily be based on site or in a project office, with regular regional travel, alongside the flexibility to work from home on an ad hoc basis.
About You

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
