I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead end-to-end technical project delivery, streamline process workflows, and manage client relationships. In this role, you will operate with high autonomy. You will own technical project roadmaps, mitigate risks and act as a primary liaison between clients and the technical engineering teams.
You will bring strong technical acumen to understand data engineering and software delivery nuances, paired with deep expertise in modern project management frameworks and toolsets.
Key Responsibilities:
- End-to-end Project Delivery: Take full ownership of complex, multi-stream data and software projects simultaneously. Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, and ensure timely delivery within scope and budget.
- Process & Jira Optimisation: Serve as the internal authority on project workflows. Set up, configure, and maintain advanced Jira project spaces, dashboards, and Confluence documentation to track delivery velocity and provide clear stakeholder reporting.
- Working Across Teams: Drive collaboration between data analysts, engineers, and executive stakeholders. Ensure team alignment with project goals and remove delivery blockers swiftly.
- Quality & Risk Control: Establish frameworks for project quality assurance, risk mitigation, and clear scope definition (including drafting detailed Project Charters and SOWs).

Required Experience & Skills:
- 3–5+ years of proven project management experience within a technical, software development, or data consultancy environment.
- Deep expertise in Jira & Confluence: Advanced mastery of Atlassian tools, including board setup, workflow configuration, metric reporting, and process automation.
- Technical Background: Hands-on background or strong working familiarity with roles across software/data delivery (e.g., prior experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or Scrum Master).
- Communication & Documentation: Exceptional written and spoken English. Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear deliverables for clients and write robust project documentation (Project Charters, SOWs, status reports).
- Agile & Delivery Mastery: Proven success designing, implementing, and refining end-to-end delivery processes across the full project lifecycle.
- Flexibility: Comfortable with initial remote working, regular bi-weekly travel to Oxford (which remains permanent), and ready to transition to a Newcastle office footprint when launched.
