Senior Project Planner – Rail Infrastructure

£77,000 + Bonus

Derby - Hybrid

An established rail infrastructure business is seeking a Senior Project Planner to lead planning and project controls across major projects or a portfolio of smaller schemes.

You’ll be a key member of the project delivery team, supporting senior project and programme managers to plan and control delivery. You’ll also contribute to business planning, help ensure projects are properly resourced, promote best practice and mentor junior planners.

What you’ll do

  • Lead planning and project controls for the projects in your portfolio.
  • Provide expert guidance on planning standards, procedures, templates and best practice.
  • Develop and maintain project plans in line with established project management and planning processes.
  • Work with project, commercial and finance managers to develop accurate, resource-loaded and cost-loaded schedules.
  • Coordinate with site and possession planners to align their plans with the main project schedule.
  • Work with bid and tender teams to develop tender plans and support their transition into mobilisation and contract delivery.
  • Build effective relationships with clients and project stakeholders, working collaboratively to find practical planning solutions.
  • Analyse critical paths and advise project teams on risks, concerns and recovery options.
  • Provide reporting on KPIs, earned value, schedule delays and critical path performance.
  • Assess potential project changes through scenario modelling and analysis of risks, costs, resources and programme impacts.
  • Support continuous improvement in planning and project controls.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced planners.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
