Senior Project Planner – Rail (Contract)

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid – 2 days on-site, 3 days remote)
Rate: £575 per day (Inside IR35)

We're looking for an experienced Senior Project Planner to join a major rail infrastructure programme based in Birmingham. This is a hybrid role offering a strong day rate and the chance to work on a high-profile, complex project.

About the Role

As Senior Project Planner, you'll take ownership of developing and maintaining integrated project schedules, working closely with project managers, engineers, and delivery teams to keep the programme on track. You'll provide the planning insight and reporting that underpins key delivery decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules using Primavera P6
  • Produce baseline programmes and manage change control against them
  • Carry out critical path analysis and identify risks to delivery
  • Deliver progress reporting, earned value analysis, and performance metrics
  • Work with delivery teams to ensure schedules reflect accurate, current information
  • Support forecasting, resource planning, and what-if scenario modelling
  • Ensure planning is aligned with wider programme controls and governance

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Project Planner within rail or major infrastructure
  • Advanced Primavera P6 skills
  • Strong understanding of planning best practice, critical path, and earned value
  • Knowledge of rail industry standards and delivery environments
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., APM, PMI) desirable
