Senior Property Solicitor | Surrey Heath Borough Council £55,526 - £62,074 | Camberley | Hybrid working, 1 day per week in the office
About the Role
Surrey Heath Borough Council is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Property Solicitor to join its Legal and Democratic Services team.
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for a property lawyer who enjoys high-value transactional work with a genuine commercial dimension. You will take the lead on property legal work connected with the Council's retail property portfolio, including its shopping centre, while also advising across a diverse commercial estate.
The Role
You will handle a broad and complex caseload including but not limited to commercial landlord and tenant work, acquisitions and disposals, and strategic advice relating to Council's property estate.
The Council's portfolio includes a shopping centre, industrial estates, office buildings, and a range of other commercial properties, giving you the opportunity to work on varied and meaningful property matters rather than a narrow transactional caseload.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We're Looking For

Get help with your application
Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
You'll ideally be a qualified solicitor with around 4+ years' PQE and solid experience in commercial property. Experience can come from either local government or private practice, so this could suit someone looking to move into the public sector as well as an established local authority property lawyer.
You'll need strong technical property knowledge, sound commercial judgement, and the ability to advise confidently at a senior level. Experience of landlord and tenant work is particularly relevant.
PQE is a guide rather than a barrier. Surrey Heath is open to considering candidates with the right experience and capability.
