All activities that consider both the business and technical requirements of customers, with the aim of delivering a quality product that meets user needs. The discipline for implementing a solid process for designing, creating, and optimizing systems, which consists of identifying and quantifying system requirements, creating alternative system design concepts, conducting design trade-off studies, selecting and implementing the best designs, and verifying that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that runs from concept to production to operation.

The role has a degree of autonomy but focuses on executing activities within an operational discipline covered by functional standard practices and procedures. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
