Python/AI Software Engineer

MCS Group are delighted to be partnering with a global organisation investing heavily in AI, automation, and next-generation technology as they continue to build out their Belfast technology function.

Due to continued growth, they are hiring for both an AI Engineer and Senior AI Engineer to join a highly visible team working on enterprise-scale AI initiatives across a global business.

This role could be particularly well suited to a strong Python Software Engineer who has started moving into AI engineering and is looking to take that experience further. You don't need to come from a traditional Data Science or Machine Learning background - strong software engineering fundamentals combined with hands-on experience building AI solutions, working with LLMs, or integrating AI into applications could be a great fit.

You'll have the opportunity to work on genuinely cutting-edge projects in a business where AI is becoming a key part of the wider technology strategy. The team is focused on building practical AI solutions that improve internal operations, automation, knowledge management, and user experience across the organisation.

The environment would suit someone who enjoys being hands-on technically, solving complex problems, and working with stakeholders to turn new AI capabilities into real-world solutions.

The Role

You will work as part of a growing AI engineering function focused on designing, building, and improving AI-driven applications and platforms across the business.

Projects currently include:

  • Generative AI and LLM applications
  • AI-powered automation
  • Integrating AI capabilities into existing software platforms
  • Machine learning solutions
  • AI platform and application engineering
  • Data-driven process improvement
  • AI governance, optimisation, and experimentation
  • Building APIs and scalable services around AI solutions

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The team is looking for engineers who can take ideas from proof of concept through to production, with a strong focus on building reliable, scalable, and maintainable software.

At the Senior level, you'll also have the opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor other engineers, work closely with stakeholders, and help shape engineering standards and best practice across AI delivery.

What You'll Need

We're particularly interested in speaking with people who have a strong Python software engineering background and some commercial, hands-on experience working with AI.

You may come from an AI Engineering, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, or Data Engineering background.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Strong commercial experience with Python
  • Experience building production-quality software, APIs, or applications
  • Some hands-on experience with AI/ML/Generative AI
  • Experience working with LLMs, AI APIs, AI agents, or AI-enabled applications would be highly beneficial
  • Exposure to modern AI/ML frameworks and tooling
  • Experience working with AWS or Azure
  • Understanding of software engineering best practices, including testing, version control, and deployment
  • Experience working with cloud-based or scalable applications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in how AI can be applied to real-world business problems
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

This is not a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer. If you're a strong Software Engineer with Python expertise who has gained genuine hands-on AI experience and wants to move further into AI engineering, we'd be very interested in speaking with you.
