Senior Python Developer
Referment is working with a UK wealth technology company whose platform is used by financial advice firms to manage portfolios, custody, execution, and reporting for their clients. Everything on the platform is built by an in-house engineering team, and the business operates in a regulated financial services environment where reliability and security genuinely matter.
It's now looking for a Senior Python Developer to play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimising the platform. This is very much a hands-on engineering role with a leadership dimension: you'll drive the technical execution of projects, mentor other developers, and work closely with non-technical teams to turn business requirements into working software.
The Role
You'll take ownership of key components and features, ensuring they remain scalable, secure, and performant. Alongside your own delivery, you'll provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level developers, helping them grow their technical skills and understanding of system architecture.

Much of the role is collaborative. You'll work closely with teams across operations, investments, client services, sales, and finance to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions, making sure implementations align with both business goals and technical standards.
You'll be accountable for the quality of what ships — driving code reviews, testing, and best practices, and leading the investigation and resolution of production issues and performance bottlenecks. You'll deliver high-quality solutions on time, contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing, and keep the development and release workflow clear and consistent.
What We're Looking For
- At least 8 years of professional software development experience, including a minimum of 4 years using Python as a core programming language
- A proven track record of delivering scalable, high-quality solutions in production environments
- Experience mentoring and guiding developers, with strong technical leadership skills
- A deep understanding of version control, testing, continuous integration, and agile methodologies
- Strong communication skills and the ability to engage both technical and non-technical teams, keeping everyone aligned
- A relevant Master's degree

Also Valuable
- Proficiency in a second programming language such as C++ or Java
- Experience in financial services or another highly regulated environment
This is a permanent, hybrid role, with three days a week based in the central London office. The company is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.
