Senior Python Developer
Location: Leeds | Hybrid | Other office options include Sheffield and London
Contract: Inside IR35 | Up to £480 per day | Team-dependent office travel
Clearance: Active SC, or very confident of obtaining SC
We’re recruiting a Senior Python Developer to build operational APIs, data integrations, and supporting services within a public-sector digital programme.
This role combines software engineering with substantial data work. It suits someone who can develop reliable services, understand the systems they connect, and support them once they are live.
What you’ll do
- Design and build APIs and automated data flows connecting operational systems.
- Develop and optimise Python code and ETL processes.
- Identify opportunities to reuse integration patterns and improve existing services.
- Translate the needs of data users and digital teams into technical requirements.
- Deploy solutions using AWS services and infrastructure as code.
- Build testing, observability, and resilience into pipelines and services.
- Contribute to supporting existing live services and pipelines.
- Collaborate with architects, data engineers, and product teams.

What we’re looking for
- Strong Python and SQL development experience.
- Experience delivering data integrations, APIs, and ETL processes.
- Confidence working with different data sources and manipulating data.
- Experience with AWS and infrastructure as code.
- A strong development approach covering testing, version control, and CI/CD.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary Agile teams.
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
