Senior Python / Software Engineer
£60,000–£75,000 + stock options
Bristol | 3 days per week onsite | Permanent
I’m working with a growing B2B SaaS company in Bristol that is hiring a Senior Python / Software Engineer to help shape and scale its core platform.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys owning software end to end, from architecture and backend development through to deployment, infrastructure, and production support.
You’ll initially join as a senior individual contributor, with the opportunity to progress into a broader technical leadership role as the engineering team grows.
What you’ll be working on:
- Designing, building, and testing Python applications
- Developing backend services and APIs using FastAPI
- Building automation tools, CLI applications, and data-processing workflows
- Designing and maintaining SQL and NoSQL databases
- Supporting Linux-based development and production environments
- Containerising applications with Docker and Docker Compose
- Deploying and maintaining services across AWS
- Improving testing, security, documentation, and engineering standards
- Working closely with product and technical stakeholders to turn requirements into reliable software
- Helping shape future architecture, technical direction, and team growth

The core experience:
- Strong commercial Python software-engineering experience
- Extensive hands-on Linux experience across development, testing, deployment, and server support
- Confident working with Bash, SSH, and command-line tooling
- FastAPI experience, or strong Django/Flask experience
- Production REST API development
- Docker and containerisation
- Strong SQL and database-design skills
- AWS experience across services such as EC2, ECS, S3, DynamoDB, Cognito, and IAM
- Automated testing, TDD, and CI/CD
- Comfortable taking ownership and working autonomously
- Clear communication and the potential to grow into technical leadership

Useful additional experience:
- PostgreSQL, SQLite, DynamoDB, or MongoDB
- pandas, NumPy, GeoPandas, or high-volume data processing
- Terraform or CloudFormation
- HTMX, Jinja2, JavaScript, HTML, or CSS
- Kubernetes or Podman
- Experience working in a startup or small product team
Previous formal people-management experience is not essential. The priority is finding an excellent hands-on engineer with the maturity and ambition to take on more technical leadership as the business grows.

- £60,000–£75,000

Interview process:
- Initial Teams interview
- In-person technical and live-coding session in Bristol
- Final technical and team-fit meeting
You must be able to work from the Bristol office three days per week and have unrestricted UK working rights. Sponsorship is not available.
