Senior Python Engineer – £120k + Benefits – Hybrid – FinTech / Distributed Systems
Explore Group has partnered with a high-growth UK FinTech scaling a proprietary, cloud-native financial platform. Backed by solid commercial growth and strong market adoption, they are modernising core transaction and workflow infrastructure—building high-throughput, automated, and secure distributed backend systems designed to handle complex, real-time data flows.
To support the next phase of their technical evolution, they are seeking a Senior Python Engineer to step into a high-impact technical role, helping drive backend reliability and mentoring engineers as the platform scales.
The Role:
- Take ownership of key architectural components, delivering resilient backend services that meet strict performance, security, and low-latency standards.
- Act as a technical mentor across the engineering team, championing clean architecture, rigorous testing, and robust engineering standards.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional product, operational, and commercial teams to translate complex domain requirements into elegant, scalable services.
- Identify performance bottlenecks, optimise system throughput, and troubleshoot distributed production challenges.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
