Senior Python Engineer - Backend (Contract)

Location: London - Hybrid, 2 days/week on-site
Contract: Initial 6 months (view to extend)
Rate: £650–£750 per day

Overview

A global data-driven technology company is looking for a Python Engineer to join their technology team on an initial 6-month contract. This is a hands-on role building and maintaining customer-facing and backend platforms, working across the full stack with a Python-based backend. The role is hybrid, with 2 days per week required on-site at the client's London office.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain scalable backend services using Python
  • Develop robust RESTful APIs and backend integrations
  • Build and maintain Python-based microservices and service components
  • Design solutions that integrate with internal platforms, databases and third-party services
  • Work closely with Product, Architecture, QA and other engineering teams
  • Write clean, well-tested and maintainable Python code and participate in code reviews
  • Contribute to backend architecture, API design and technical decision-making
  • Troubleshoot and resolve performance, integration and production issues

Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience as a Backend Software Engineer / Python Developer
  • Strong Python development experience, ideally with Django and/or Django REST Framework
  • Excellent experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
  • Experience building backend services and microservice-based applications
  • Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Experience integrating with internal and third-party APIs and services
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software engineering practices
  • Comfortable working within an Agile engineering environment
  • Must be able to work on-site in London 2 days per week
