Senior Python Engineer / Lead Python Engineer
We’re working with a high growth UK fintech that is modernising the infrastructure behind wealth management and financial advice.
The business has built a proprietary technology platform that enables financial advisers to manage investments, portfolios and client accounts through a modern, technology led infrastructure. Having scaled significantly in recent years, they are continuing to invest heavily in their engineering organisation and are looking for experienced Python Engineers across Senior to Lead level.
This is an opportunity to join a technically ambitious team working on high scale financial technology, where engineering is central to the product and wider business.
The Role
As a Senior or Lead Python Engineer, you’ll work on the core platform that underpins the company’s products and services. You’ll have significant ownership over technical decisions, system design and the development of new capabilities, working closely with Product, Engineering and other teams across the business. Depending on seniority, you’ll also have the opportunity to influence engineering standards, architecture and technical direction, as well as mentor and support other engineers.
What you’ll be doing
- Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Python
- Work on core financial and investment platform functionality
- Develop robust, reliable and secure systems handling sensitive financial data
- Contribute to architectural and technical decisions across the platform
- Work closely with Product, Engineering and other stakeholders to deliver new functionality
- Improve the scalability, performance and reliability of existing systems
- Write high quality, well tested and maintainable code
- Contribute to engineering standards, practices and technical strategy
- At Lead level, provide technical leadership and mentorship across the engineering team
- Help shape the future architecture and technical direction of the platform

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
