Senior QA Engineer
Location: Birmingham
Job Type: Full-time
Work Arrangement: Hybrid- 2 days onsite per week
Visa sponsorship is available for the right candidate, if required. Candidates must be based in the UK.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior QA Engineer to join an agile Scrum team and take ownership of quality across the software development lifecycle. You will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability and resilience of software products, working closely with developers and other stakeholders. You will also help drive automation, improve testing practices and mentor other QA Engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute test strategies, test plans and test cases based on requirements and user stories.
- Design, develop and maintain automated test scripts to improve test coverage and efficiency.
- Work with the QA leadership team to enhance test automation frameworks and processes.
- Identify, document and track defects through to resolution and retesting.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous and regression testing.
- Perform performance and load testing to assess system stability, scalability and responsiveness.
- Support security, accessibility and usability testing.
- Maintain test plans, test cases, test data and test reports.
- Collaborate with development teams to manage test environments and test data.
- Mentor and support other QA Engineers, promoting a strong quality-first culture.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience in software testing, QA and test automation.
- Hands-on experience with test planning, test case design and test execution.
- Strong experience with automation frameworks/tools such as Selenium, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG or similar.
- Programming experience in Python, Java or JavaScript for test automation.
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated testing into development workflows.
- Experience mentoring or coaching QA Engineers.
- Strong debugging, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to investigate issues beyond surface-level failures.

Desirable Experience
- Performance testing tools such as JMeter, Gatling or LoadRunner.
- Knowledge of security testing methodologies and tools.
- Understanding of accessibility testing standards and practices.
