South Molton Plant Overview

The South Molton plant is based in Devon, UK and has over 400 employees. The plant commenced production in 1973 and in 1975 an investment casting foundry opened on the site. The Foundry is the only one of its kind across Eaton’s Aerospace plants.

Today the plant’s core focus is the design, manufacture and test of Components primarily for the aerospace sector.

The site’s main customer is the Eaton facility at Titchfield, Hampshire, UK and the external customers to the site include Airbus, Boeing, Embraer and Augusta Westland.

Role Overview

In this role you will act as the focal point for Product Safety reporting, risk management, occurrence investigations, safety performance monitoring and safety promotion activities. Support the delivery of the Quality Assurance strategy, ensuring product flow complies with industry standards, regulatory requirements and customer expectations. Lead Quality Engineers and Quality Control personnel in the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Quality and Safety Management Systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with CAA Part 21G requirements.
  • Develop, review and update SMS procedures and documentation, ensuring effective business integration.
  • Facilitate Safety Review Boards (SRB) and Safety Action Groups (SAG).
  • Produce safety performance reports for senior leadership.
  • Manage safety databases and reporting tools, performing trend analysis of safety and operational data.
  • Recommend and support safety improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practice.
  • Act as the primary contact with the CAA on SMS matters.
  • Support regulatory and customer audits.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable CAA Part 21G regulations and safety standards.
  • Develop and deliver product safety communications.
  • Organise safety campaigns, workshops and awareness programmes.
  • Promote a positive reporting culture and Just Culture principles.
  • Deliver SMS training across all levels of the organisation.
  • Participate in internal quality audits and complete approval documentation for new or modified products and processes.
  • Lead and support Quality Engineers and Quality Control personnel in quality data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with EQS policies and quality best practices.
  • Support the design and delivery of quality assurance training programmes.
  • Support product development and launch activities, including testing, reliability analysis, design reviews and material evaluation.

Qualifications

Degree education is preferable

Skills

  • Detailed knowledge of industry and customer specific quality registration schemes and certification processes (i.e., ISO9001, CAA Part 21G, AS9100 etc).
  • Managing and Promoting Aviation occurrence reporting systems.
  • Ability to lead a small team of Quality personnel to drive performance through the Pay & Progression process.
  • Ability to manage all Team Personnel requirements – H&S, Disciplinary, Training, Sickness etc
  • Thorough understanding of problem-solving methods-i.e. Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, and the associated statistical tools used to analyze problems, evaluate and complete improvement projects
  • Detailed understanding of the key phases and requirements of an effective new product development and launch methodology
  • Detailed knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques, i.e., pFMEA, Critical to Quality characteristics, Control plans etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of System and process auditing techniques to ensure compliance to defined regulatory and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Process Variation Reduction (six Sigma) concepts and tool sets as they relate to process/product variability, and root cause and corrective action determination.
  • Knowledge of product and end user application/specifications, including product testing requirements. (design/process interface)
  • Understanding of engineering design and product reliability concepts and tool sets
  • Ability to lead cross-functional process improvement teams.
