Senior Quality Engineer
Newport, Isle of Wight (hybrid and flexible working - 4 days onsite)
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Quality Engineer to join our Quality team. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive quality professional who is passionate about driving continuous improvement, preventing defects, and ensuring products meet the highest quality standards.
You will play a key role in identifying and resolving production and engineering issues through effective root cause analysis, implementing robust corrective and preventive actions, and working closely with cross-functional teams to improve processes and product quality.
This position also involves supporting supplier quality activities, supervising a small team, monitoring quality KPIs, and communicating technical findings across all levels of the business. Experience leading quality improvement initiatives within a manufacturing environment is essential.
You will also support final product inspections, First Article Inspections (FAIs), Certificates of Conformity, and liaise with customers and Government Quality Assurance (GQA) representatives when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve product quality.
- Lead structured problem-solving activities using recognised quality methodologies.
- Investigate production and engineering issues, ensuring effective root cause analysis, containment and corrective actions are implemented.
- Plan, monitor and verify corrective and preventive actions to ensure long-term effectiveness.
- Work closely with Supplier Quality to manage non-conforming materials and supplier returns.
- Produce detailed investigation reports for significant quality issues.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to resolve quality concerns and improve manufacturing processes.
- Work with Design Engineering to establish manufacturing acceptance criteria and inspection methods before product release.
- Create, review and maintain quality documentation including work instructions, inspection procedures and test documentation.
- Support internal quality audits and compliance activities.
- Assist with incoming, in-process and final inspections as required.
- Monitor compliance with relevant statutory, regulatory and quality management system requirements.
- Supervise and support a small quality team where required.
- Monitor departmental KPIs and provide regular reports to the Quality Manager.
- Communicate quality performance and findings effectively to stakeholders at all levels of the business.

About You
We're looking for someone with a strong background in quality engineering within a manufacturing environment who enjoys solving complex problems and driving continuous improvement.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a Quality Engineering role within manufacturing.
- Demonstrated success implementing process improvements, quality controls and compliance initiatives.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, technical documentation and wiring schematics.
- Working knowledge of quality tools and methodologies including:
- Root Cause Analysis
- 8D Problem Solving
- Lean Manufacturing
- Kaizen
- Process Mapping
- Statistical Process Control (SPC)
- Pareto Analysis
- Familiarity with Design and Development processes.
- Good understanding of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems.
- Experience within electromechanical or complex manufacturing environments.
- Strong Microsoft Office and general IT skills.
- Experience using inspection and test equipment is desirable.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience would be advantageous.
