About The Role
Lead Quality. Drive Nuclear Safety. Shape the Future.
At Balfour Beatty, we're delivering some of the UK's most critical and complex infrastructure projects. We're looking for an exceptional Senior Quality Manager to lead the deployment of our Quality and Nuclear Safety Strategy across the Programme & Project Partners (PPP) framework at Sellafield.
This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll champion a culture of quality excellence, provide strategic assurance across major programmes, and ensure products and services important to quality and nuclear safety are delivered Right First Time.
If you're passionate about quality, thrive in highly regulated environments and want to make a genuine impact on nationally important projects, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing
- Lead the implementation of the Quality and Nuclear Safety Strategy across the PPP framework.
- Promote a strong quality and nuclear safety culture where teams are empowered to raise concerns, challenge decisions and drive continual improvement.
- Provide independent quality leadership and assurance to project and functional leadership teams.
- Drive compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 19443, client requirements and industry best practice.
- Lead, develop and inspire a high-performing quality team, supporting talent development and succession planning.
- Establish and oversee risk-based assurance programmes across projects, functions and supply chain partners.
- Lead supplier quality governance, audits, surveillance and performance assessments.
- Drive initiatives to prevent Counterfeit, Fraudulent and Suspect Items (CFSI), protecting project integrity and nuclear safety.
- Develop meaningful quality performance reporting, metrics and insights to support effective decision making.
- Champion lessons learned, organisational learning and continuous improvement.
- Lead investigations into quality incidents and adverse trends, ensuring robust root cause analysis and sustainable corrective actions.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, regulators, industry bodies and supply chain partners.
- Ensure quality requirements are effectively integrated across procurement, design, engineering and construction activities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
