About The Role

Join Balfour Beatty as a Senior Quantity Surveyor and play a leading role in the successful delivery of a major project within a live healthcare environment in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced commercial professional with either an MEP or construction background to contribute to a complex, high-profile scheme where collaboration, innovation and excellence are at the heart of everything we do. You'll be joining a project that requires strategic commercial management, stakeholder engagement and strong leadership within a highly operational setting, where maintaining business continuity is critical throughout construction activities.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working in constrained or live environments such as hospitals, airports, schools, universities, data centres, manufacturing facilities or other operational sites where works must be delivered safely and efficiently alongside day-to-day activities. Your ability to navigate the unique challenges of these environments, manage commercial risk, lead stakeholder engagement, oversee project change and drive commercial performance will be essential to the success of the project.

As part of an experienced and supportive project team, you'll work closely with operational, design and commercial colleagues to maximise value, lead commercial decision-making, manage subcontractor relationships and ensure commercial objectives are achieved throughout the project lifecycle. You will play a key role in forecasting, cost control, contract administration and the commercial governance of the project, helping to deliver successful outcomes for both our client and the business.

Whether your experience has been gained through MEP packages, building construction or wider infrastructure projects, this is an excellent opportunity to further your career with one of the UK's leading construction and infrastructure businesses while helping to deliver a facility that will make a lasting difference to the communities it serves.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor You Will

  • Take responsibility for the commercial management of designated packages and elements of the project.
  • Manage costs from pre-construction through to final account.
  • Prepare and manage forecasts, budgets and cost reports.
  • Monitor and manage project expenditure, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Lead the procurement and commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Prepare, negotiate and agree subcontract accounts, variations and final accounts.
  • Manage change effectively, ensuring that commercial impacts are identified and communicated.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, Design Manager, Planning and wider delivery team.
  • Build strong working relationships with the client, consultants and supply chain.
  • Provide commercial advice and support to the project team.
  • Ensure contractual and commercial processes are followed and appropriately documented.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
