Senior Quantity Surveyor
Role Purpose
- The jobholder will work within Omexom’s Major Project South Business Unit, reporting to the Senior Project Manager for South Shields / BUGM for MPS BU and functionally to England’s Regional Commercial Manager.
- Project-specific work involves direct collaboration with Project Managers, Site Managers, and Project Site Teams to support the delivery of the South Shields Project.
- The role requires interaction with other parts of the Omexom business, including Planning, Finance, and Engineering.
- This is a 12-month fixed-term position, with potential progression to a permanent role based on business needs.
Responsibilities & Duties
The successful candidate will ensure the following key tasks are fulfilled:

Mandatory site attendance with the site project team.

Participation in fostering a safe working environment.

Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships with clients, subcontractors, and subcontractors.

Produce subcontract documentation, including:
- Negotiation of scope, terms and conditions, prices, and programmes.

Management of subcontract packages, including:
- Interim valuation assessments
- Change management (adhering to payment terms)
- Production and issuance of commercial notices to both the client and subcontractors.

Efficient change management:
- Timely processing in accordance with the form of contract.
- Preparation and submission of Compensation Event Quotations.

Monthly commercial management:
- Application preparation & submission to the client.
- Risk identification, quantification, and mitigation for cost and value.
- ** representantes attendance** at progress and risk reduction meetings with clients and subcontractors.

Budgetary obligations:
- Initial project budgets and ongoing maintenance throughout the project lifecycle.

Valuation and scheduling:
- Preparation of valuation claims aligned with client payment terms.
- Management of labour resource scheduling.

Final account preparation:
- Input into final account documentation review.

IT and documentation efficiency:
- Proficiency in using company IT systems for document control across stakeholders (Omexom, Client, Designers, Sub-contractors).

Support and collaboration with the following stakeholders:
- Regional Commercial Manager, Quantity Surveyors, Senior Project Manager and Finance team
- Business Unit General Manager
- Planners, Bid Managers and internal/external legal support teams
- Site Teams
- Clients
Person Specification
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 2:1 BSc (HONS) Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
- Familiarity with NEC forms of contract and knowledge of Construction Law.
- Strong NEC contract expertise (training or appreciation).
- 3+ years’ experience in:
- Commercial management.
- Subcontractor procurement.
- Chairing regular meetings.
- Measurement & control cycle, certificates, and accruals calculations.
- Proficiency in commercial management:
- Monthly reporting and earned value analysis.
- Estimation and cost analysis.
- Communication skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Numeric and computer literacy (MS Office proficiency).
- Organisation & efficiency:
- Effective time management and working to tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while ensuring team collaboration.

Desirable
- Masters in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management or related postgraduate course.
- 2+ years’ experience in the energy sector (e.g., substations or OHL).
- Chartered Member Status: RICS or CICES.
- Industry experience: Construction industry background.
- HV Electrical Contractor / Civil Contractor Experience.
- CSCS card (where applicable).
