Senior Quantity Surveyor – Job Spec

Job Title: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Rockbeare, Rockbeare Hill, Exeter, Devon, EX5 2HB (project based in Bristol)
Pay Rate: £300.00 - £500.00 per day
Hours: 40 per week, 08:00 start
Start Date: 17/08/2026
Length of Assignment: 3 months (Permanent Recruitment in Progress)
Number of Vacancies: 1

JML are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our client's Civils South West team on a major infrastructure project. This role is responsible to a Project Manager or Commercial Manager for all commercial aspects of a project or section of a project, protecting the company's commercial position through in-depth contractual, commercial, and legal understanding.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement

  • Preparing project procurement schedules and work package content sheets
  • Carrying out subcontract procurement in line with the procurement timetable
  • Preparing invitations to tender, evaluating returns, and recommending appointments

Applications for Payment & Cost Control

  • Maximising cash flow through timely valuations, invoicing, and payment receipt
  • Managing final account preparation and settlement, including variations, claims, and disputes
  • Identifying and driving out unnecessary costs and inefficiencies
  • Preparing material wastage reconciliations

Accounting & Reporting

  • Producing accurate and timely CVR reports and forecasts
  • Establishing robust reporting structures to monitor resources and costs against targets

Risk, Change & Contract Management

  • Early identification and management of project risks and opportunities
  • Identifying, challenging, and recovering costs of client "Change"
  • Ensuring contractual notices are prepared accurately and on time
  • Preparing subcontract instructions, notices, and change control procedures
  • Managing Compensation Events, claims, and disputes

Client & Team Relationship Management

  • Liaising with the client, PQS, and senior staff
  • Managing and developing other commercial team members
  • Providing commercial support to tendering and project start-up processes

Key Skills / Requirements

  • ✅ Valid CSCS Card
  • ✅ Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civils/infrastructure
  • ✅ Strong understanding of NEC/JCT contract forms
  • ✅ Excellent commercial, contractual, and negotiation skills
  • ✅ Experience managing subcontract procurement, valuations, and final accounts
  • ✅ Strong reporting and forecasting ability (CVR)
