Senior Quantity Surveyor – Job Specification

Location: Leeds / Hybrid
Employment: Permanent
Salary: Competitive + Car/Car Allowance + Flexible Benefits
Reporting to: Commercial Manager

I’m currently working with a leading UK energy and infrastructure contractor delivering major power and utility projects, including the construction, upgrade and maintenance of substations and wider electricity network infrastructure. They have a strong pipeline of projects and work with some of the UK’s major energy network operators.

Role Purpose

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of multiple civil engineering, electrical and infrastructure projects. The role will involve managing commercial performance, contractual risk, client relationships and supply-chain accounts from project commencement through to final account.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage NEC3, NEC4 and bespoke contracts across multiple projects.
  • Lead quotation submissions and ensure contract orders are in place.
  • Manage valuations, applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier accounts.
  • Prepare and maintain CVRs and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Monitor project costs, revenue, margins, risks and opportunities.
  • Establish and lead monthly project and senior commercial reviews.
  • Attend client progress and commercial meetings.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Manage contractual change, compensation events, claims and disputes.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and implement appropriate actions.
  • Ensure contractual notices and commercial processes are completed correctly and on time.
  • Support procurement and effective management of the supply chain.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation across commercial processes.
  • Provide commercial support and guidance to project teams.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts.
  • Experience within civil engineering and construction.
  • Strong understanding of valuations, variations, applications and final accounts.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and supply-chain accounts.
  • Experience producing CVRs and cash-flow forecasts.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
  • Strong commercial, analytical and numerical skills.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline, or HNC with relevant experience.
