Senior Quantity Surveyor – Civils & Infrastructure

Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing commercial team, working across major utilities and infrastructure projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in civil engineering, utilities, telecoms, power or infrastructure projects to take responsibility for the commercial management of complex projects.

The role will involve working closely with the Commercial Manager, Project Managers, operational teams and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered commercially successfully, safely and within programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of infrastructure and utilities projects.
  • Manage projects from contract award through to final account.
  • Prepare, submit and negotiate applications for payment.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, payments and final accounts.
  • Identify, manage and maximise commercial opportunities.
  • Prepare and agree variations, compensation events and change control.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts and financial performance.
  • Produce accurate monthly CVRs and commercial reports.
  • Manage contractual correspondence and ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of project budgets and cost plans.
  • Work closely with operational teams to identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Review subcontract and supplier agreements.
  • Support the resolution of commercial and contractual disputes.
  • Ensure robust commercial processes and governance are maintained.
  • Mentor and support junior Quantity Surveyors and other members of the commercial team.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, utilities, infrastructure, telecoms, power or a related sector.
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or a significant project portfolio.
  • Experience with NEC contracts would be highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of subcontract management, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Commercially astute with excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work closely with operational and project delivery teams.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and commercial management systems.
  • Relevant Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management qualification is desirable.
  • Professional membership of RICS, CICES or similar is advantageous.
