We are seeking an ambitious and driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Energy Business Unit, supporting the commercial delivery of a major SSEN transmission project.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in a high-profile infrastructure project, contributing to its successful delivery from early stage works through to full construction. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all commercial aspects of the project, working closely with project delivery teams to ensure robust cost control, commercial governance, and value generation.
The role is ideally suited to an experienced commercial professional with strong all-round quantity surveying expertise, who enjoys working on complex construction and infrastructure projects. Experience within the electricity transmission sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage all commercial aspects of construction and infrastructure projects from inception through to completion.
- Take ownership of the commercial management of a major transmission infrastructure project, ensuring the successful delivery of both initial works and future construction phases.
- Ensure effective cost management, forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting across the project lifecycle.
- Administer and manage contracts and subcontract agreements in accordance with project requirements.
- Prepare, negotiate, and agree valuations, variations, change events, and final accounts.
- Monitor project performance and provide commercial guidance to support successful project delivery.
- Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Support procurement activities, including tender evaluation, subcontractor engagement, and contract negotiations.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company procedures, and commercial best practice.
- Produce accurate and timely commercial reports and forecasts for project and business leadership teams.
- Support dispute avoidance and resolution through proactive contract management.
- Mentor and support junior members of the commercial team where appropriate.
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
- Experience performing a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within the construction, civil engineering, energy, or infrastructure sectors.
- Proven experience managing all commercial aspects of construction projects from pre-construction through to project close-out.
- Strong all-round commercial management skills, including cost control, contractual administration, forecasting, reporting, procurement, and final accounts.
- Experience delivering commercially successful outcomes on complex or high-value construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of cost management, contract administration, commercial reporting, and change management.
- Experience working with standard forms of construction contract.
- Commercially astute with excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver successful project outcomes.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider project team.
- Transmission sector experience is desirable but not essential.
- Willingness to travel and work on site as required.
- Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline is desirable but not essential.

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
