Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team and provide expert commercial support across a range of facilities management, property maintenance, and construction activities. This is a key role responsible for ensuring effective cost control, commercial governance, and successful delivery of projects across the USVF contract.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with operational teams, clients, supply chain partners, and commercial colleagues to provide cost advice, manage commercial risk, and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual requirements.
- Provide commercial support across both core services and Billable Works, helping teams develop robust cost models, prepare work proposals, manage budgets, and deliver value for money.
- Support the full project lifecycle, from initial planning and pricing through to delivery, final accounts, and post-contract cost control.
- Maintain strong commercial control across projects, ensuring budgets are effectively managed, financial targets are achieved, and risks are identified and mitigated.
- Monitor costs, support monthly reporting, review supply chain performance, and provide insight to help improve commercial performance.
- Collaborate with internal teams, Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), clients, and suppliers to build strong relationships and support successful contract delivery.
- Provide guidance on contract requirements, support stakeholder negotiations, and help resolve commercial issues, including dispute avoidance and resolution.
- Review and manage change, support contract processes, and ensure compliance with company procedures, health and safety requirements, sustainability objectives, and statutory obligations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, and enhance service delivery.
- Support the development of collaborative relationships with clients and supply chain partners, helping to deliver a consistent and high-quality service.
- Help operational teams make informed decisions and achieve contract objectives through effective communication and commercial expertise.

Location
The role is primarily based at RAF Lakenheath, with regular travel required across USVF sites. A full UK driving license and the ability to meet security requirements are essential.
About You
- Strong experience working within quantity surveying, commercial management, construction, property maintenance, or facilities management environments.
- Proven understanding of commercial processes, cost management, contract administration, and risk management.
- Experience developing cost models, preparing tenders and work proposals, managing variations, and supporting commercial decision-making.
- Experience managing multiple projects or programs of work simultaneously, particularly within a complex operational environment, would be highly beneficial.
- Confident working with stakeholders at all levels, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build effective working relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear commercial advice are essential.
- Commercially aware, analytical, and organized, with the ability to identify risks, solve problems, and deliver practical solutions.
- Experience working with supply chains, contract performance management, and value improvement initiatives will be advantageous.
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience is required, alongside a good understanding of health and safety, sustainability, and industry standards.
- Experience within a defence, MOD, or highly regulated environment would be beneficial, as would knowledge of collaborative working practices such as BS11000.
- Proactive, adaptable, and committed to delivering high standards, supporting teams to achieve results while maintaining a strong focus on quality, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
