Senior Quantity Surveyor - Major Infrastructure Project
Grays, Essex
£55,000 to £65,000 + £4,000 car allowance/company car + package
I'm working with a major UK infrastructure contractor who are looking for a driven Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their site based delivery team on a £1bn infrastructure project in the South East.
The scheme includes nearly 20km of complex highways construction, new bridges and viaducts, major utility diversions and some of the most significant infrastructure work currently taking place in the UK.
This is a delivery-focused commercial role, working closely with construction teams, subcontractors and the client across a large number of high value packages of work.
The role will involve:
- Leading the day-to-day commercial management of large packages of work
- Administration of NEC target cost contracts
- Managing defined/disallowed cost, compensation events and pain/gain mechanisms
- Cost forecasting, CVRs and commercial reporting
- Owning change control, early warnings and compensation events
- Managing subcontractor accounts, payments, variations and final accounts
- Working with delivery and design teams to manage commercial risk and utility interfaces

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
