Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Cumbria
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: £70,000 - £75,000 + Package

A leading Tier 1 infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Cumbria. This organisation delivers some of the UK's most complex and critical infrastructure projects, working across long-term frameworks and major programmes within highly regulated sectors. With a strong pipeline of work and a commitment to developing its people, this is an excellent opportunity to join a market-leading business on a flagship infrastructure programme.
Your New Role
Reporting to the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial support and leadership to the project commercial team, ensuring all aspects of commercial management and contract administration are carried out in a timely and accurate manner. You will play a key role in maintaining commercial performance whilst supporting project delivery across a major infrastructure scheme.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing subcontract accounts and undertaking project commercial activities
- Leading and developing junior commercial team members
- Delivering and maintaining internal and external commercial targets
- Working closely with key project stakeholders, including client commercial teams
- Ensuring commercial data is accurate, communicated effectively and reported to stakeholders
- Identifying and escalating commercial risks and opportunities
- Maintaining compliance with project procedures, governance requirements and contractual obligations
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the commercial function
- Contributing to commercial strategy and project delivery objectives
- Managing small commercial teams whilst reporting into senior commercial leadership where required

What You'll Need to Succeed
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Additional security and compliance requirements to be done online
- Previous supervisory or management experience within a project commercial team
- Strong subcontract management experience
- Excellent understanding of commercial practices within civil engineering and infrastructure projects
- Experience of contract management systems such as CEMAR or similar
- Degree qualification or equivalent experience within a relevant discipline
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- The ability to obtain relevant project security clearance where required
- Experience managing or mentoring junior commercial staff
Desirable:
- Chartered status with RICS, CIOB or a similar professional body
- Experience working on major infrastructure, utilities, rail, nuclear or civil engineering projects
