Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Gatwick (Primary focus on major, safety-critical transportation & civil engineering assets)

Package: Highly Competitive Base Salary + Executive Company Car / Allowance (EV/Hybrid) + Bonus

The Opportunity

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of complex maintenance, upgrade, and replacement schemes across major transportation infrastructure in Heathrow.

Writing to candidates who thrive in fast-paced, high-compliance environments, this role oversees full end-to-end commercial management, risk mitigation, and financial reporting for large-scale framework contracts. Additionally, the Senior Quantity Surveyor plays a vital leadership role—mentoring junior surveying talent, driving pre-contract work-winning strategies, and upholding rigorous governance across high-value portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Commercial Governance: Manage project costs, contract administration, procurement, monthly cost reconciliations, and financial reporting across complex civil and building packages.
  • Risk & Dispute Management: Identify, track, and mitigate commercial risks (cost overruns, scope changes, delays) and liaise with contract service teams to resolve commercial variations and disputes effectively.
  • Mentorship & Development: Provide structured mentorship, training, and technical guidance to assistant and junior quantity surveyors, supporting their progress toward professional accreditation (APC/RICS).
  • Work-Winning & Pre-Contract: Collaborate closely with pre-contract teams, contributing to resource planning, tendering, and commercial strategy on work-winning initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary commercial contact for key clients, main contractors, and internal executive leadership during regular portfolio reviews.

Candidate Requirements

  • Education & Accreditation: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional membership (MRICS, CICES, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Sector Background: Proven track record delivering commercial management on civil engineering, structural maintenance, or safety-critical infrastructure projects (e.g., aviation, rail, highways, or major utilities).
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong expertise in cost estimation techniques, contract negotiation, financial forecasting, and risk management.
  • Leadership & Influence: Outstanding communication skills with a demonstrated ability to provide specialist commercial guidance to senior multidisciplinary teams.
  • Digital Literacy: Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and enterprise commercial/cost-management platforms.
