What you'll be doing
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will act as a key commercial interface between project delivery teams, subcontractors, and the client, ensuring compliance with contract terms, robust cost control, and clear, accurate reporting.
What You’ll Be Doing (delivery Focus)
- Lead the day-to-day commercial management of live works, ensuring full compliance with main contract and subcontracts.
- Administer NEC target cost arrangements (defined cost, disallowed cost, compensation events, pain/gain verification) with clear, auditable records.
- Drive cost forecasting and control, aligning budgets with construction programmes and progress on site.
- Own change control: raise early warnings, prepare/agree compensation event quotations, and secure timely approvals.
- Partner with delivery, design and the client to de-risk utilities interfaces, resolve issues quickly and keep work moving.
- Track and report subcontractor accounts (payments, liabilities, variations) and support final account agreement.
- Produce concise, insight-led commercial reports, CVRs, risk/opportunity updates and inputs to project dashboards and reviews.
- Champion governance and LEAN/digital ways of working to improve speed, clarity and value.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
