About The Role

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Lower Thames Crossing (Delivery) — Balfour Beatty Highways

At Balfour Beatty, we deliver infrastructure that shapes communities, supports connectivity and leaves a lasting legacy. As a leader in major civil engineering, we combine technical excellence with an industry-leading commitment to innovation, digital delivery and low carbon construction. Join us and be part of projects that strengthen the UK’s future.

Help deliver one of the UK’s most significant highways programmes.

Our £1.2bn Lower Thames Crossing package includes 43 bridges (including viaducts), 17km of complex highways construction, major utility diversions, and a scheme-wide, industry-leading approach to carbon reduction. Join the delivery side of the project and be the commercial heartbeat of high-profile work packages that make a national impact.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will act as a key commercial interface between project delivery teams, subcontractors, and the client, ensuring compliance with contract terms, robust cost control, and clear, accurate reporting.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will act as a key commercial interface between project delivery teams, subcontractors, and the client, ensuring compliance with contract terms, robust cost control, and clear, accurate reporting.

What You’ll Be Doing (delivery Focus)

  • Lead the day-to-day commercial management of live works, ensuring full compliance with main contract and subcontracts.
  • Administer NEC target cost arrangements (defined cost, disallowed cost, compensation events, pain/gain verification) with clear, auditable records.
  • Drive cost forecasting and control, aligning budgets with construction programmes and progress on site.
  • Own change control: raise early warnings, prepare/agree compensation event quotations, and secure timely approvals.
  • Partner with delivery, design and the client to de-risk utilities interfaces, resolve issues quickly and keep work moving.
  • Track and report subcontractor accounts (payments, liabilities, variations) and support final account agreement.
  • Produce concise, insight-led commercial reports, CVRs, risk/opportunity updates and inputs to project dashboards and reviews.
  • Champion governance and LEAN/digital ways of working to improve speed, clarity and value.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
