Senior Quantity Surveyor (Freelance) Edinburgh or Glasgow Based

6-Month Contract | Attractive Day Rate | Flexible Working

Your New Company

Our client is a leading Tier 1 main contractor with an enviable reputation for delivering some of the UK's most complex and high-profile construction projects. With a strong pipeline of secured work across Scotland, they are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team on a freelance basis. This opportunity will see you join the business during the pre-construction phase of a major, publicly significant development in Edinburgh. Operating within a sector experiencing sustained investment and growth, the project represents a landmark scheme that will deliver lasting economic and social value.

Your New Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in supporting the commercial and pre-construction teams throughout the planning and procurement stages of this major project. Working closely with senior stakeholders, estimators, planners, and operational teams, you will be responsible for ensuring commercial robustness throughout the bid and pre-delivery process.

Key duties will include:

  • Supporting commercial strategy during the pre-construction phase.
  • Reviewing and managing cost plans, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Procurement planning and supply chain engagement.
  • Risk identification and commercial assessment.
  • Contractual review and commercial reporting.
  • Supporting bid submissions and value engineering initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with project teams to ensure a successful transition into delivery.

What You'll Need to Succeed

To be considered for this role, you will be an experienced Quantity Surveying professional with a strong background working for main contractors on large-scale construction projects.

You will ideally possess:

  • Proven experience operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level.
  • Experience working on major construction projects within a Tier 1 or large regional contractor environment.
  • Excellent commercial, contractual, and procurement knowledge.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively within fast-paced pre-construction teams.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach.
  • Exposure to complex public sector, infrastructure, healthcare, education, or other large-scale development projects would be highly advantageous.
