Senior Quantity Surveyor (Site Based)

Location: India Queens Substation, St Austell, Cornwall

Contract Type: Contract (Inside IR35)

Rate: Up to £600 per day

Start Date: ASAP

Hours: 45 hours per week (Site Based)

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to provide commercial leadership on a major substation project at India Queens, Cornwall. Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will take ownership of all commercial activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring robust cost control, contract compliance, change management, and financial reporting.

This is a site-based position requiring a commercially focused professional with a strong background in power, utilities, transmission, distribution, substations, or major infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all commercial and quantity surveying activities on-site.
  • Manage project budgets, cost forecasts, valuations, and cashflow.
  • Administer contracts and manage compensation events, variations, and change control.
  • Prepare and negotiate subcontract packages and manage subcontractor accounts.
  • Produce accurate cost/value reconciliation reports and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor commercial performance and identify project risks and opportunities.
  • Support the delivery team with contractual and commercial advice.
  • Manage applications for payment, assessments, and final accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and internal governance procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within power, utilities, energy, civil engineering, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience working on substations, transmission, distribution, or National Grid projects.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of NEC contracts.
  • Experience managing subcontractor accounts, change control, and final accounts.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate independently in a site-based commercial lead role.
  • Relevant Quantity Surveying qualification or equivalent commercial background.

Desirable Experience

  • National Grid project experience.
  • High Voltage (HV) substation experience (132kV-400kV).
  • Major infrastructure, energy transition, or power sector projects.
  • Exposure to principal contractor environments.
